A creamy homemade Maca hummus made with chickpeas, tahini, lemon, cumin, and Maca powder for an earthy twist on a classic dip.
If you love hummus as much as we do, you have likely experimented with a bunch of different recipes over the years, but have you ever tried Maca hummus? Maca adds an enjoyable earthy flavor to this classic chickpea dip and is extremely easy to incorporate.
For a quick version, you can simply stir some organic Maca powder into your favorite store-bought hummus. If you have a little more time, try this homemade Maca hummus recipe, adapted from Julie’s recipe at The Simple Veganista.
Maca Hummus

Chickpeas & Tahini
Ingredients
- 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed, or 1 1/2 cups cooked chickpeas
- 4 tablespoons tahini
- 1/4 cup water, plus 2 tablespoons as needed
- 1 small garlic clove or 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Juice of 1–2 lemons, to taste
- 2 t Maca powder
- 1/2–1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon roasted pine nuts, optional
- 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan salt, or to taste
Instructions
- Place the chickpeas, tahini, 1/4 cup water, garlic, lemon juice, Maca powder, cumin, pine nuts if using, and salt in a food processor.
- Blend until the hummus reaches your desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust the garlic, lemon, salt, or cumin as desired.
- If you prefer a slightly thinner consistency, add up to 2 additional tablespoons of water and blend again.
- Serve plain or add your favorite toppings. Suggested garnishes include chickpeas, pine nuts, chopped parsley, and a dash of smoked paprika.
