Family-Run. Maca-Focused. Independently Tested.

The Maca Team is a small, family-run company specializing exclusively in authentic Peruvian maca.

Since our beginnings, we have kept our focus simple: sourcing exceptional maca, building lasting relationships with the people who grow it, and giving our customers the information they need to make informed choices.

Our approach is grounded in three commitments:

Source with integrity. Test with rigor. Communicate with honesty.

That means working closely with farming partners in the Peruvian Andes, maintaining demanding quality standards, independently testing our maca, and being transparent about both what we know and what we do not know.

Maca is not one product among hundreds for us. It is what we do.

Our Story

The Maca Team grew from founder Mark Ament’s long-standing interest in Latin America, traditional foods, and plant-based nutrition.

Mark first began using maca in the early 2000s. Drawing on his academic background in Latin American studies and familiarity with Peru, he eventually connected with farmers in the high Andes who were cultivating maca using traditional methods.

What began as a search for genuinely high-quality Peruvian maca gradually became a company.

The goal was not simply to import another supplement. It was to build a direct connection between traditional maca-growing communities and people around the world who cared about origin, quality, freshness, and responsible sourcing.

More than two decades later, those principles still guide The Maca Team.

Meet Our Founder — Mark Ament

Mark Ament founded The Maca Team after years of study and work involving Latin America, Indigenous cultures, traditional foods, and plant-based nutrition.

He holds two master’s degrees, in Latin American Studies and American Indigenous Culture & Religions, and his work has taken him through Peru, Asia, and New Zealand.

That combination of academic study and practical experience helped shape the way The Maca Team approaches maca today: respect its place of origin, understand the traditions surrounding it, pay close attention to quality, and communicate responsibly about what research does and does not tell us.

Mark remains actively involved in the company and in the educational content published on The Maca Team website.

Why We Do What We Do

For us, maca has always been about more than a finished product.

Behind every package are farming families, agricultural traditions, high-altitude growing regions, processing decisions, laboratory testing, transportation, packaging, customer service, and ultimately the people who choose to buy from us.

We want those relationships to work well in every direction.

For our farming partners, that means stable long-term relationships, fair pricing, respect for traditional cultivation, and support for responsible agriculture.

For our customers, it means fresh products, careful testing, transparent information, fair prices, reliable fulfillment, and people who are available when questions arise.

Running the company this way takes more effort. We believe it is worth it.

How We Work

For Our Farming Partners

  • Maintain long-term relationships with Peruvian farming cooperatives and families
  • Pay fair, stable prices for high-quality maca
  • Support traditional high-altitude cultivation
  • Encourage responsible soil and crop-management practices
  • Respect the knowledge developed through generations of maca farming
  • Invest in relationships rather than simply purchasing from the lowest-cost supplier

For Our Customers

  • Source authentic Peruvian-grown maca
  • Offer certified organic products
  • Require independent testing of maca batches
  • Produce and import in relatively small batches to maintain freshness
  • Use protective packaging designed for long-term quality
  • Keep pricing as fair as possible
  • Provide prompt, personal customer support
  • Publish detailed information about sourcing, quality, testing, and maca itself

Every package connects these two sides of the company.

What Sets The Maca Team Apart

There are many companies that sell maca. We chose instead to build a company around it.

Because maca is our specialty, we can pay close attention to details that are easy to overlook when it is simply one supplement among hundreds.

Maca Is Our Focus

Our business is built around maca. That specialization has allowed us to develop deep experience with its origins, colors, forms, processing methods, sourcing, testing, storage, and use.

Direct Relationships at the Source

We work with established partners in Peru rather than buying anonymous commodity maca whenever the price is lowest.

Freshness Matters

We purchase from ongoing harvests and manage inventory carefully so our products are measured in months rather than sitting in warehouses for years.

Independent Testing

Our maca batches undergo independent laboratory testing, and Certificates of Analysis are made available so customers can examine testing information themselves.

Protective Packaging

We use packaging chosen to limit exposure to moisture, air, and light and help preserve product quality after processing.

Fair Pricing

We aim to create value on both sides of the supply chain: fair compensation for the people producing our maca and reasonable pricing for the customers purchasing it.

Information You Can Examine

Our educational content distinguishes traditional use, practical experience, and scientific research rather than treating them as the same thing.

When research is limited, we say so.

Personal Customer Service

We remain a relatively small company, which allows us to communicate directly with customers and work toward fair solutions when something goes wrong.

What Our Customers Say About The Maca Team

Customer feedback collected over many years often mentions the same things we work hardest to maintain: product quality, freshness, transparency, personal service, and consistency.

“The quality and freshness of this maca is outstanding. Thank you for being an educated and conscientious importer and supplier.”

— J.D.

“I appreciate the help and effort you put into customer support. It’s the best experience I’ve had — it feels natural and comfortable, like talking to a friend.”

— Ahmad Hij

A Company Built Around Relationships

The Maca Team would not exist without the farmers who grow maca, the people who work with us in Peru and the United States, and the customers who have supported our company over the years.

We remain grateful for all of them.

Being a small company gives us the opportunity to stay close to the product, the people behind it, and the people buying it. As we grow, our intention is to preserve that connection.
